The Narayani River Conclave 2023, held on February 13–14, brought together a diverse group of participants committed to the long-term preservation of the Narayani River Basin. With the central theme “Healthy Rivers: Healthy Lives,” the conclave served as a platform for collaboration and dialogue between stakeholders, policymakers, academics, researchers, and emerging scholars.
The Narayani River, a lifeline for ecosystems, communities, and economies in the region, faces mounting challenges—pollution, unsustainable practices, and threats to aquatic biodiversity. Recognizing the urgency of action, the conclave aimed to address these issues through open discussions, knowledge sharing, and innovative solutions.

From July to September 2020, this collaboration focused on strengthening healthcare and livelihood resilience during the COVID-19 crisis. Key initiatives included equipping isolation centers with hospital beds, PPE, oxygen cylinders, and other critical resources. Quarantine centers were enhanced with water tanks, sinks, and pumps, while cooperatives received agricultural and turmeric processing machinery. Ultra-poor individuals were supported with vending carts, and the Natural Ayurvedic Hospital was provided with essential beds and oxygen connection sets to bolster healthcare services.
Between January 2019 and December 2021, this project focused on building flood resilience and disaster preparedness in vulnerable communities. Ten Community Disaster Management Committees (CDMCs) with specialized task forces were formed to drive local resilience efforts. Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) plans were developed and implemented, alongside strengthening Early Warning Systems (EWS). The initiative also provided life-saving equipment, promoted climate-smart and flood-resilient agricultural practices, and linked lead farmers with local agricultural departments. Additionally, a safety net worth NRs 13,00,00,000 was established in cooperatives to ensure long-term financial stability.
From December 2017 to July 2018, Micro-Enterprise Development For Poverty Alleviation Program (MEDPA) fostered entrepreneurship and strengthened micro-entrepreneur associations, providing sustainable access to markets, finance, technology, and advocacy.
